SPECIAL EVENT! October 27 we are having a MoonDance! That's right, not only is it time to howl at the moon for Halloween, but there is a lunar eclipse that night at 7pm, so you can check it out then come out and celebrate it! We will have a set of Moon-themed songs, and a Lunar Looney dance contest-- who can dance the silliest?? To top it off, to match our astronomical theme, our band that night is Mitch Woods and his ROCKET 88s! So don't space out-- come to Alberto's and mingle with the stars. ;) We regret it's time to announce the farewell party for Wednesday Swing night at Alberto's. Persephone and I have been teaching there for almost 6 years-- the longest run of any Bay Area location for swing with live music. Even though we live in the East Bay, we have made the trek in traffic every week to Mountain View to play our unique mix of swing music, and give hours of lessons to our wonderful crowd. The people we have met, taught, and danced with at Alberto's have been great. We had a large group of regulars, but the newcomers each week also felt welcomed by the friendly atmosphere our people maintained. Our regulars never limited themselves to only dancing with each other or with the best dancers. This allowed our Wednesday night dance to grow and thrive. Special thanks for our regulars who are still with us after all these years: Bill, Leah, Tom, Kelly and Kristine, just to name a few. Unfortunately, over the last year many of our former regulars have dropped out of swing. The end of the dot com era meant that many people in the Silicon Valley moved away and/or became unemployed. Some of our cherished dancers left Lindy Hop to try other dances, change careers, or get married and with the local population diminishing we have not been drawing large crowds of newcomers, despite our advertising efforts. Knowing that Nov-Dec holiday season always means a big drop in attendance, we thought it was best to close now, while the dance floor is still full enough that people are having a good time, and will keep fond memories of Alberto's. We consider our time at Alberto's a great success. We feel satisfaction that many long term higher level dancers learned their basics from us. We don't presume to take all the credit for their dance abilities, but I hope that how and what we taught them helped provide a good base for continuing to learn and develop good technique. And I hope that classes that I taught also helped foster good attitudes in having fun and promoting good etiquette. So what happens next? Swing will go on, of course. Persephone will keep on with her Lindy classes in Berkeley, and we will have special classes, workshops, and parties together as we always have. If/when a dance happens someday in the South Bay, we will let you know; please email to get on Persephone's email list to receive monthly updates on swing classes and events. Our students were sad last Wednesday night to hear the news; believe me, so are we. But life must evolve and change, and moving dances and venues around is part of that. We're sorry to be leaving the students who have stuck by us for many years. Thanks for your support, and I hope you will continue to reap the benefits of dance for the rest of your lives. So help us celebrate our happy times at Alberto's by coming out on Wednesday October 27. We're having a Halloween MoonDance! That's right, not only is it time to howl at the moon for Halloween, but there will be a lunar eclipse that night at 7pm, so you can check it out, then come out and celebrate it! We'll be having a Costume Party that night - so come as your best ghost or goblin, zoot-suiter, or whatever you want. We'll be having a LunarLooney dance contest for who can dance the silliest! A performance by Double or Nothing too! Cost - $12 with lesson, $10 at 9pm Here's the schedule: 8:00 - 9:00 Drop-in East Coast Swing lesson 9:00 - 11:45 Live Music with Mitch Woods and His Rocket 88s |

| What: |
East Coast Swing is fun for
everyone; no partner or
dance experience necessary. We will always start with the basic
footwork, and you will learn different steps from week to week.
In no time you will be out on the floor, with moves you can lead and
follow, to music that makes you want to dance. Click here
for the East Coast Swing step list.
Lindy Hop is the first form of swing dance, from the 1930's, which uses mostly 8 count steps. The basics of this dance are a bit more challenging to learn, so students wishing to sign up for Lindy Hop must commit to the whole month of classes. Please come to the first class meeting a little early to pay for the series. Students will not be added to the class in subsequent weeks (except occasionally we let followers join the class in the second week, if they can catch up, to balance the extra leaders). Those who sign up for the Lindy also get to participate in the East Coast lessons and dance parties after, at no additional cost. We are happy to offer Intermediate Lindy from 6-7pm. Click here for the Intermediate Step Lists. The class is also a series, so please come the first week. Students must have their basics solid from taking Beginning before taking Intermediate; anyone we feel does not have sufficient basics will be moved into the Beginning class at 7 (which is also open for any Intermediate students to take as a review, at no additional cost!) |
