Here is a calendar you can print out and hang up, of all vintage dances and classes we know of...
see how many days you can fill with dancing if you try!

Everything listed here will feature waltz and/or polka.  If you hear of any other event that features a band and enough space to dance, please let us know and we will add it here.  If you would like you can join the email list, who are the first to receive the latest news like this:

Friday, July 23 = Vintage Invasion, where a great time is had by all.  Held at the Finnish Brotherhood Hall, Chestnut & University, Berkeley.  8pm Lesson in vintage waltz (no partner or experience needed).  9-12 Dance party with DJs Sam and Persephone playing lots of waltzes, and a smattering of swing, polka, or whatever else our guests say they want to dance.   Always a good opportunity to socialize, and try out your new moves.  Potluck snacks; please bring something if you can.  $8 / $6 after 9pm.

Saturday, July 24 =  Second annual Historical Ball, held at McDonald Mansion in Santa Rosa.  There is a dance class from 12-2pm that afternoon to get you ready, then the main event from 6:30-10:30 includes a fancy catered dinner, a docent-led tour of the historic estate, and dancing to the Brassworks Band, playing waltzes, polkas, and some ragtime dances.  Come in costume, of any year between 1830-1930.  Tickets are $90 and proceeds go to preservation of the historic Santa Rosa Rural Cemetary.

Tuesday, July 27 =  Yes, we have one more night of Hambo!  Wanted to clear the confusion since the 4th Tuesday comes after the 4th Friday this month.

Tuesday, August 3 =  Our next series in Int/Adv waltz begins.  This month we will do moves using Skaters' position.  Getting in, getting out, turns, swirly bits.  And we will also do 1920's Charleston, so that you will be ready to attend the Gatsby Picnic in September.

Saturday, August 7 = the annual Peers Picnic.  This year's theme is Sense and Sensibility, by Jane Austen.  So the optimal thing to wear is a high-waisted cotton dress or coat, but as usual for Peers, costumes are "admired not required."  Held at Lincoln Park, 1450 High St, Alameda.  It's a public park, so entry is free, though you are welcome to tip the musicians.  Picnic lunch (bring your own) from 11:30-1, then Bangers & Mash play for dancing 1-4pm.  I honestly don't recommend dancing on the dirt path unless you have perfect knees and don't sunburn.  But lots of people will be doing it.

Saturday, August 7 = East Bay Waltz will be held at the Lake Merritt Dance Center as always.  I know they were considering moving, but they did not, so please continue to show up at the same place for Saturday dancing.  7-9pm Todi gives waltz lessons, including Congress of Vienna  9-12pm Christophe DJs dance music, including waltz, swing, tango, etc.  $12 / $8 after 9pm and students.

Thursday, August 12 = My next series starts at UC Davis.  $20 for 4 weeks, Aug 12, 19, 26, and Sept 2.  Send your Sacramento area friends over!  Held on campus from 7:30-8:30pm.

Saturday, August 14 = The Gaskell Victorian Ball, a large and formal event.  Doors open at the Scottish Rite Temple at 7:30 for a refresher dance lesson, then from 8:30 until midnight, the Brassworks Band plays authentic Victorian dance music.  Waltz, Polka, Schottische, and Mazurka.  Wear the fanciest thing you can find.  It would be nice if it was Victorian, but you can get in with any full length dress.  You probably have a few friends who have been bridesmaids and have something lovely languishing in their closet, waiting for you to wear it.  Men have it a bit easier, since white tie and tails have not changed significantly in a hundred years.  $20
